CHUC | Coimbra

CHUC is one of the largest hospitals in Europe, with all the medical and surgical specialities, including OBGYN, psychiatry and paediatrics. CHUC is tightly connected to Coimbra University, one of the oldest in Europe with over 700 years of expertise in Medicine. CHUC and Coimbra University have within their campus a strong culture and tradition of basic, translational and clinical research.

Several independent labs and science spin offs are also part of this network, allowing CHUC and their patients an easy access to state of the art science and technology, from genetics to neuroscience, from PET scan to mass spectroscopy.

O CHUC é um dos maiores hospitais da Europa, tendo todas as especialidades médicas e cirúrgicas, incluindo dois hospitais de Agudos, duas Maternidades, um hospital Psiquiátrico e um hospital Pediátrico. O CHUC está intimamente ligado à Universidade de Coimbra, uma das mais antigas da Europa, com mais de 700 anos de tradição na área da medicina.

O CHUC e a Universidade de Coimbra cultivam no seu campus uma forte cultura e tradição em investigação clínica. Existem vários laboratórios independentes e spin offs que também fazem parte desta rede, permitindo ao CHUC e aos seus doentes um acesso fácil à inovação, nomeadamente tecnológica, abrangendo áreas que vão da genética às neurociências.

The Ophthalmology Department has 11 beds and the Ocular Oncology Unit has one special radiation-proof room for ocular brachytherapy. It is the largest ophthalmology department in Portugal, with 41 specialists and consultants, and is responsible annually for about 9.000 surgical interventions, 90.000 consultations, 3.000 laser operations and more than 100.000 complementary examinations.

The Ocular Oncology Unit was created in 1992 and is a referral center for ocular tumours. This Unit is responsible annually for about 30 treated uveal melanomas with brachytherapy, being the only Portuguese center equipped and trained for ocular brachytherapy. The Unit staff it is composed by ophthalmologists, medical radiotherapists and nuclear physics engineers with a special training in ocular oncology.

O Serviço de Oftalmologia tem 11 camas e uma Unidade de Oncologia Ocular com uma sala especial à prova de radiação, específica para braquiterapia ocular. É o maior Serviço de oftalmologia em Portugal, com 41 especialistas e consultores, sendo responsável anualmente por cerca de 9.000 intervenções cirúrgicas, 90.000 consultas, 3.000 operações de laser e mais de 100.000 exames complementares.

A Unidade de Oncologia Ocular foi criada em 1992 tornando-se num centro de referência para tumores oculares. Esta unidade é responsável anualmente pelo tratamento com braquiterapia de 30 melanomas da úvea, sendo o único centro de Português equipado e treinado para braquiterapia ocular. A equipa é composta por Oftalmologistas, Radioterapeutas e Físicos nucleares treinados para o efeito no estrangeiro.
